History

Honolulu Professionals Foundation (HPF) was started in August 2008 at the Plaza Club, where Ashumi Lee, Matthew Shido, Shane Chan, Ross Shinyama, and Reid Matsushima brainstormed the idea of forming a group with a community service focus while growing it and their careers alongside each other. The idea gained some momentum and the Honolulu Professionals Foundation, originally called The Board, put together its mission statement in early 2009.

In June 2009, under the suggestion of member Tom Presler, HPF raised money for the Sunshine Kids, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. HPF raised $2,500 for the Sunshine Kids fundraiser and had over 150 people in attendance at Kanpai.

In January 2010, on the suggestion from Ross Shinyama, HPF raised $12,000 for the Hawaii High School Athletic Association’s Save Our Sports Fund at Bonsai Restaurant. There were over 300 people in attendance.

Later that year, HPF did another fundraiser for the Aloha Medical Mission in November at the suggestion of Josh Cardwell, and was able to raise $8,500 for them. There were over 300 people in attendance at that fundraiser held at Ka Restaurant and Lounge.

Also in November, HPF was approved for their own 501(c)(3) status. Its board is headed by Reid Matsushima.

In October 2011, HPF held a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii, where over 300 people were in attendance and they raised $9,600.

HPF continues to put together fundraisers selecting a different non-profit organization recipient every year. Come join HPF if you share in the same vision we have of building a lasting positive legacy through partnerships while giving back to the community you are a part of!
